Further to my previous post, I have now set up a W2K machine to access my
Lexmark M410 which is connected to the USB port on my Qube3.

As I said earlier, getting it to work from MacOS was trivial. However
getting it to work under Windows was not so easy.

My first attempt was to just use Windows printing to a network printer.
Wimdows was able to see the Lexmark attached to my Qube3 and created a SAMBA
printing port to access it. THIS DID NOT WORK!

My second attempt was to define my own TCP/IP printing port. This
eventually worked.  The critical things to note for the port settings are;

    Protocol: LPR

    LPR Settings
    Queue Name: Lexmark
    LPR Byte Counting Enabled

Naturally your mileage may vary, but I got it to work without having to
install any additional software on the Qube3 (apart from OS 6.4).

At some stage this morning I connected my Lexmark M410 directly to a USB
port on my W2K machine to verify that the driver was correct and was able to
send meaningful stuff to a printer.

I used a Mac to confirm LPR printing was working on the Qube3 so that only
left Windows as the source of any problems.

I have no idea why printing via the SAMBA Printing port generates errors,
but hey its only Windows. In fact printing via LPR does not require
"Windows" printing to be enabled on the Qube3 so it might be best to leave
it disabled to avoid confusion and diappointment.

Cheers, Malcolm
