You must be sure that the zone file contains both master and slave
nameservers.
You can check this by doing
dig @master.nameserver.tld domain.tld
Make sure both nameservers are listed in the authority section.
Then run;
dig @slave.nameserver.tld domain.tld
To make sure the slave answers authoritively for the domain
Note: primary and secondary terms are depreciated, the correct terms are
master and slave.
