Although MS sells software, not hardware. I haven't bought a Gateway or
Dell, but I would hope they patch Windows and other MS software on the
product up to date before giving it to the customer. Maybe they don't.
But anyway, comparing the RaQ to Windows is really apples and oranges.

Unfortunately not, windows packages released on pre-built Dell systems are not patched (in fact, they are rarely even installed properly due to mass ghost distributing), and so I can see exactly where cobalt are coming from here.
Suggestion to RaQ people: put another linux box on your internal network, with a directory listed in exports. Put all the packages into that directory.
NFS mount this directory on new RaQ's, and run a script similar to:
/usr/local/sbin/cobalt_upgrade /mnt/RaQ3-All-System-3.0.1-6168.pkg
(repeat for all packages required)
I'm happy to post out the script I use, its fairly straight forward, but means I can get a RaQ online and patched up in a very short space of time, without needing manual intervention.

Andy
