Hi Colin,
I've got to say I've never seen a linux-box of any description do that
to its bash prompt.
If you type hostname or cat /etc/HOSTNAME what do those reveal??
It shouldn't need an internet connection to retain the hostname. Does
your machine use DHCP to collect an IP or is it static??
