I can't make heads or tails of the error messages you included but I
just recently fought a similar battle and my experience might help.
To make a very very long story short, if you are trying to
install the DBD module, then run - don't walk - and grab yourself a
copy of the DBI module. As I recall there's an RPM for DBI on
Cobalt's FTP site. It will slide right in, RPM or not, and it
provides the very same functionality the DBD and then some. For
complete details check out the beginning of Chapter 10 in O'Reilly's
MySQL & mSQL book.
