[cobalt-users] Rumor: Later this year NEW Cobalt Appliance? (also) IBM Takes on Sun..

I read a rumor and read a thread over 30 days ago or so and can't
search for it.

I am trying to find out if SUN is/might be coming out with a
new appliance within the next 3-6 months.

I was close to buying a RAQ4 and I am holding back a bit. I figured
if new ones come out the RAQ4 should drop in price a little or might
be able to get a new one *if* it's equivalent to RAQ4 *in* price.

I also came across an article when searching for Cobalt.

"IBM Takes On Sun Cobalt"
The IBM e-Server xSeries Hosting Appliance includes up to 40 pre-loaded
applications and operates on Red Hat's Linux platform. Add in Sphera's
Hosting Director and IBM has built an offer worthy of the Sun.

I am not sure if this is old news or not but I am/was impressed with
the demo (flash) of features this IBM appliance has.

It run RH 7.1 version and uses Sphera as a control panel. It costs more
for the appliance and wanted to ask anyone that came across any of these
appliance their opinion. The control panel looked very impressing
and I'm sure 1/2 of the 40 add-ons are trial and have to buy them.

I like the fact that you are not limited to a 512 MB ram and a certain
CPU speed. These can be upgraded up to 1.5 gig of ram.

PS. I wasn't paid or hired by IBM to advertise them. I never knew
about their stuff till now.
