I just got a 'used' RAQ from a local store here.
They had other RAQ 2, 3, some Qubes and such, from companies
that went belly-up.
He said he restored the RAQ with RAQ 4 software.
What bothered me is that the right side was smudged
and RAQ 4, or etc was removed. I asked him and double
checked to make sure it is a RAQ 4!.
He confirmed it and he told me I can bring it back. He showed
me the back serial number which starts with '4G' than below that
it's a number that starts with 'R46 G0'
This Raq has Eithernet card with Aux1 and Aux 2. Below that has
an add-on of Outside / Inside two extra, which he said that is the
Voice over IP stuff or something 'VOICE'.
He said that they don't have that installed because the software
alone is about $2,000 from SUN and / so they removed it.
I opened up the system added another stick of 256mb ram for about $50.00
PC100 and the guy at the store told me that I can put up to a 1 gig. I
told him that based on what I herd that max was/is 512mb max.
I opened up and even looked at the chip to see what kind it is.. Can't
see,
it's all glued to the aluminum body... The 2 extra Aux for "outside and
inside"
Ethernet looking stuff is attached to the motherboard I guess It's not
like the
Eithernet card that has on or built on top of the internet.
IF THIS IS A RAQ 4, what is the use of the Voice over IP. The guy said
it's a plus
for the price I paid. Would it cause any issues or such if I am using
it as a
basic RAQ 4...?
Can I call SUN give them the serial and ask him what the system is..? I
can plug it
onto my system and give it a sub-net ip address because I am on cable
modem and browse
around, see settings, maybe ghost the drive onto another.. install
add-ons and then
taking it to have it co-lo.
Any inputs or suggestion is appreciate it, here on the list or send me
private email.
