I don't think it is a good idea, as 'A' records are often used for delivery.
I did notice that when I do a 'dig' on smtp and smtp2 for an MX record
neither one responds with an Answer (Answer is always 0)
dig smtp.asp-networks.co.uk MXdig
smtp2.asp-networks.co.uk MX
So the email is possibly always delivered to the 'A' record for
asp-networks.co.uk
