What cobalt first failed to recognize and Sun due to their arrogence
what the great control panels out there beating cobalt in simplicity
and price. We can deploy a 1Ghz machine with 512 MB of RAM and Plesk
with an unlimited domain license for about $1300. We can get about
600 domains, upwards of 900 on some. This blows away anything cobalt
produces. Plain and simple.
Sun has failed to realize and is now trying to play catchup to vendors
like IBM, Dell, and Digital/Compaq and yes Apple, that relying on a
proprietary mix of hardware and software just is not the way to make
sales anymore. I have two cobalts left, I own both. I have gotten
rid of about 15 RAQ2 and 3s in the past year, either "rented" or own.
My Qube 1 I keep for sentimental reasons and it provides a mirror for
the LDP. The other is our "corporate" server, because I would never
make customers deal with Cobalt when they can have a plesk interface.
Too bad they refused to look at the competition, it was a great
product line.......three years ago.
