Re: [cobalt-users] Raq4 siteManage directory vanished ...

At 09:05 AM 3/21/2002, you wrote:

The following occurred with my Raq4:

1) I created a set (3) of virtual sites and adjusted DNS-settings for each
of them normally.

2) I edited the httpd.conf to allow one of these virtual sites to have its
root directory inside another virtual site's web-directory. Not a very
abnormal adjustment.

And just what exactly did you do here? This could have effected the server when you went back into the GUI (that rewrites the httpd.conf) and deleted the virtual sites. Depending on how you edited the conf file could have effected the management directory on the delete. Especially if you used a partial path.

3) A few days later I needed to delete these virtual sites. Using the Server
Management tool I deleted the virtual sites - and weird things begun to
happen.

a) I got "invalid group" errors twice when deleting the virtual sites. b) All email traffic on the server jammed and configuration errors started
flooding the admin mailbox.
c) A directory alias for one virtual site directory was left undeleted. d) Worst of all the entire /usr/admserv/html/.cobalt/siteManage directory
disappeared taking down all Site Management interfaces for all virtual
sites.

Backups were used to fix problems, but the reason for the meltdown remains a
mystery. Does anybody have suggestions as to what might have caused all
this?

Thanks!
