After pulling my hair out over this issue, I have found the solution to the
"unrestorable" RaQ problem.
For those that missed the original thread, I had 5 RaQ's come in this week
that were unrestorable. They generally failed to reboot during the restore
process, as required before all of the pkg updates on the restore CD are
installed.
Here's what I found:
I can't take the credit for the breakthrough, as I saw a posting today,
either in WHT or on the Sun knowledgebase, can't remember exactly where that
offered up this little gem... previously unbeknownest to me, you can do a
CMOS restore by:
Press & hold the E key
Turn the RaQ on
Wait until you see "CMOS Restored"
Turn the RaQ off
Release the E key
Note the E key is held the entire duration. I got the distinct impression
from the original post that this tip came at the $95 rate, if you know what
I mean. Chalk it up to good timing, but that step being posted today was an
answer to my prayers.
I have done the above on 2 previously unrestorable RaQ3's with perfect
results tonight.
This is a HUGE relief to me personally to have found the solution. Does
anyone know when the CMOS is modified, and where it is restored from? I'd
appreciate the insight.
Thanks,
Brandon (who is doing cartwheels throughout the office tonight!!! <g>)
