Did you try this? Maybe you didn't know what I meant. I meant try
installing the PKG file from the commandline. Upload the PKG to the server
and run:
/usr/local/sbin/cobalt_upgrade /path_to/package_name.pkg

You're asking an avid PHP fan who has been programming in PHP for 3 years.
I'm hardly a neutral person to ask. <g> Putting on my server admin hat, I
can say that it's a great scripting language and there are unbelievable
number of open source programs and scripts written in PHP which are freely
available, any number of which someone running a site or a hosting business
would find useful. PHP4 has been around for about 2 years and has many
advantages over PHP3 so I'd urge you not to install PHP3.

I thought there was a PHP4 PKG at http://pkg.nl.cobalt.com/ for the RaQ3,
but either I'm mistaken or it's no longer listed. There's one listed for
the RaQ4. If you're comfortable installing programs from source, PHP4.1.1
installs fine on the RaQ3. People have posted instructions on-list for
getting certain PHP modules to install so if you go that route I'd check the
archives. I install PHP all the time for clients so if you run into any
obstacles and post on-list I can help. The nice thing about the PHP install
is that if you know what you're doing, install with the --with-apxs
parameter and backup your libphp4.so file (you won't have one if you've
never installed it) it's not a risky install. The worst that can happen is
that you won't get it working. <g>

Don't let me talk you out of installing Neomail. Just wanted you to know
your options.
