This is a bug in certain versions of netscape's mail client (4.5-4.7x),
when it connects to the server it sees 'AUTH' offered in the EHLO greeting
and *assumes* it is supposed to use smtp auth , regardless...
This is not really specific to cobalt, it's specific to mail servers that
support SMTP AUTH...many still don't , so you don't see it all that much,
some which do support it do so transparently (eg they auth all users
regardless) so you don't see an error there, the evil case is when
you show it as available but don't allow it ;P
You should have an option somewhere to enable this , or have the user
upgrade to a newer version of netscape mail that behaves more rationally
(Tho i'm somewhat loth to recomment 6.1 ;) ;P
