Jeff,Until I became aware that you could tell ssh not to allow direct logging in as root, I'd have tended to agree with you. Couple that with the fact that the boxes only come stock with the admin/root combined password and you come quickly that it does indeed offer one more layer of barrier if you turn off root login, change passwords to separate admin/root login and add that step to get to root. ie: you're going to have to get in as admin before you even have a chance to crack a root password.
