There is _never_ a rational reason for running an open relay. If you
aren't running POP before SMTP, you should turn SMTP OFF, since other than an
internal network, there's no _way_ to tell what IPs are users on your machine
and what IPs are bad guys sending spam to the rest of the world.

(*sigh*) Please do an archive search. This log crisis comes up about every
third day when someone new actually looks at the log files.
Charlie (who is as anti-spam as it's possible to be, and thinks
the insecure SMTP should be eliminated completely as a
protocol)
