Our (win2k) host run's imail,
and I've happily logged in with 2 mail programs at once, I'd guess most
windows mailservers doesn't stick to the mailbox locking thing, not that I'm
complaining, it's nice to be able to see the names and subjects of what to
expect while the mail is actually downloading.
