We pondered the same problems after having plumped for a Cobalt over an NT
box, and eventually (after many different ideas) settled for the use of
Interbase. There are various tools available for interbase and there is a
conversion tool to recreate your access db into a .gdb interbase db. Works a
treat, the driver for chilli is already installed and really there hasn't so
far been a negatives that we have found to using Interbase over MySQL. You
can get full Windows based client and server tools for Interbase initially
and then use a tool called IBaccess if you wish to create new IB db's
directly, or use sql2gdb to convert between IB and Microsoft SQL or Access.
