RE: [cobalt-users] [RAQ4r] ASP, MySQL, and Microsoft Access

Hi Guys,

I was in the same boat, and here's what I did. There are several GUI tools
that can be used with MySQL to import data. I use MySQL Front
(www.mysqlfront.de), and I allows you to import from ODBC datasources. You
can view a list of GUI's for mysql at
http://www.mysql.com/portal/software/html/software-35-1.html

I've had no problems at all with MySQL. I'm a little weary about using the
PostGres Database as it houses a lot of the Cobalt's GUI config settings &
sites/user info

HTH

We pondered the same problems after having plumped for a Cobalt over an NT
box, and eventually (after many different ideas) settled for the use of
Interbase. There are various tools available for interbase and there is a
conversion tool to recreate your access db into a .gdb interbase db. Works a
treat, the driver for chilli is already installed and really there hasn't so
far been a negatives that we have found to using Interbase over MySQL. You
can get full Windows based client and server tools for Interbase initially
and then use a tool called IBaccess if you wish to create new IB db's
directly, or use sql2gdb to convert between IB and Microsoft SQL or Access.
