Am brand new to this list and to the RAQ machines,, so please know that
inexperience is the source of any list etiquette I may violate. Thank
you ahead of time for any pointers about using this resource correctly.
Today I got nowhere with a continuing DNS problem (two weeks on a RAQ
4i). After reading archived messages in this list, I wondered if the
problem might reside with an upstream connection of my company's
network. I used the suggested tracert program at
http://www.visualware.com/visualroute/livedemo.html
Only two of my 8 assigned IP numbers pass the test. The primary site IP
works, and one other IP works, but the remainder, including the
secondary nameserver, do not pass the tracert test. All failed IP
numbers stop at the same node -- one stop before entering my company's
network. Tracert gives me one or the other of the following failure
messages:
"Analysis: IP packets are being lost past network "UUNET" at hop 15.
There is insufficient cached information to determine the next network
at hop Connections to HTTP port 80 are being refused." (this for
secondary name server)
or
"Analysis: IP packets are being lost past network "UUNET" at hop
15.There is insufficient cached information to determine the next
network at hop Connections to HTTP port 80 are not working." (this for
remainder of IPs)
Which company, my company's network or the preceding node's network, is
responsible for these error messages. In other words, whom do I contact?
My company's tech help is not responding today, so I would appreciate
any suggestions.
Thank you all -- Nell Bolen
