Hi, I am the list admin, at least temporarily.
I have set Ken's address to nomail. He can set it back when he gets his
problems fixed, or he can email me. (Ken, I've CCed you on this just in
case things are working now.)
Next time something isn't working, please forward the notification to
the admin's address at cobalt-users-admin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx That will get
to the admin regardless of who the admin is. Right now, it's the same as
emailing me personally at corky@xxxxxxxx
Thom (and others), please don't take the following reply personally:
>Gawd knows...if Sun can't task some folks to look after the list, they
should be able to find/create software that unsub's an address after
repeated bounces.
... but this kind of attitude really bothers me. First of all, we do
have software that does this, and I get notifications every couple of
days that someone has been removed. Second of all, being the admin, I
get about 100 messages a day about emails not making it through (usually
2-3 people a day with repeated bounces) and PERSONALLY go through and
set those people to nomail. Maybe the bounce software should be more
sensitive. I will look into this.
Now, let me make two things very clear:
-- Sun tried to kill these mailing lists with their acquisition of
Cobalt. I am fighting these people tooth and nail even though THIS HAS
NOTHING TO DO WITH MY JOB AT SUN and it takes me about half an hour of
my personal time every day to manage this mailing list. If these people
had their way, you'd all be using supportforum.sun.com/cobalt, and I
swear that I will not let that happen as long as it is in my power to do
so (or at least until they fix the thing to where general discussion is
okay and actual support people are staffing it). I even dragged my boss
into it and we will go as high as we need to to make the message clear
that this list needs to stay around. I believe in Cobalt and I believe
in Cobalt's products enough to take this on myself.
-- I have been going through some rough times lately, most recently
surgery with some complications. So if I don't get to your messages
immediately (because I am falling behind as is because of medical
reasons), I'm sorry. Please understand that I only have so many hours in
the day and like it or not, many of those must be dedicated to sleeping,
R&R, and working. Please DON'T spam the list with problems -- email me
and it will get taken care of.
Maybe someone else at Sun will take this mailing list over. I don't
know. But for now, the situation stands as mentioned in this email. I am
going to take some more of my personal time and do an on-the-side Cobalt
website. (More about this in a later email.) Whatever happens,
unofficial Cobalt support and Cobalt user help WILL continue, even if
I'm the only one creating the infrastructure to make that possible. :P
