Thank you for your quick response.

I'm familiar with the speed and duplex settings, and my switch vendor.
I included that info to assist readers who may have experienced this issue
correlate the facts. It's not part of the error found in /var/log/messages;
only the "too much work" line is.

I can see now that I wasn't very clear describing the problem:

Under what circumstance will a Raq3 running build 2.2.14C10 generate the
kernel error stated below, and then shutdown eth0? And what if anything can
be done to prevent it?

I'm suspicious of broadcast storms since we have a good-sized layer two
environment, but just the same, only the Raq is gagging.
