Group,
We started with one 4 line post, clearly marked OT, so obviously it
shouldn't have been here in the first place. Including this posting, we now
have 8 replies, NONE of them productive (including this one).
>You may choose to delete spam. I do something about it.
Dan's right - his initial reply was concise and to the point. I agree with
it.
>And if my one post stops 10 other spams from being posted to the list?
It didn't (and it almost never does) - Responses to the list concerning spam
are spam by association. People who don't respect the FAQ either don't care
about them, don't know about them, or are willing to take the flame if their
mailing is successful. In any case, I doubt if fear of inciting your ire
stops anyone but the most sensitive from posting whatever they want to this
list. People who want and need the group's expertise (like me) try to
follow the rules, and quickly correct our actions or methods if we are
'called out'. Real spammers could care less.
>That's if you buy the JHD (just hit delete), argument about spam. I don't.
I
don't like paying for spam.
Agreed - However, we all have had to pay (at least in time) for the 8
replies to the original, misguided post.
I do have a recommendation (one that I follow most of the time, and one that
I'm breaking right now):
After ONE person responds with 'Hey, don't spam us, Spammy Spammerson!',
let's all LEAVE IT ALONE. If Dan gets to it first, so be it. If he (or
anyone else) wants to take the time to contact the individual, their
company, their ISP, or the list owner, that's their time to spend. I
personally don't have time for it. It really is easier to JHD (after an
appropriate SINGLE slap on the hand) most of the time.
My $0.02.
