It's best to get yourself an old PC and stick Red Hat on it and
make your mistakes on that first. Failing that, what *I* would do
is put a *copy* of your tar file in, say, /home/temp/playpen and
see how permissions and directories are set up when you untar
the file, and that way get a feel for how it works.
