No, Im sure the hardware (raq3 + ) wouldn't mind a bit.. but you may as well
buy yourself a 1U case and build it yourself.. 
what makes it a 'cobalt' is the software/OS configuration/GUI etc. 

I have found that 1U Case/mobo plus HD + FreeBSD4.3 and Webmin installed (as
GUI frontend from ports tree...) comes very very close to being much more
cost effiecient and easy to use than the cobalts.

Hello,

I know this may be a little unorthodox, but has anyone ever tried to wipe
the hard drive from Cobalt's software and install a release of FreeBSD
(e.g. 4.3-RELEASE) on it? If so, please e-mail me back. Thanks. --
