Yes, that's what it means; and yes, there are alternatives.
The alternative is to simply copy/paste the URL of the software into
the GUI and tell it to go grab it and install it (by hitting Install
Now). The reason Cobalt recommends not doing this though, is actually
*because* the package is so large.
So what they recommend is that you download the package to your own
machine, upload it (binary mode) via FTP to the /home/packages
directory. FTP in as admin and you'll be able to move up through the
directories until you get to /home ...after that just move down into
'packages' and put the file there.
Then return to the GUI and it will have the package listed in a
drop-down menu (after it's finished uploading), so simply select that
package and then tell it to install by hitting the Install Now button.

Easy as pie, either way. You can do it!
