Well, this fellow (the one who posted the original question)
decided to create only symbolic links for some of the more
"harmless" directories under /usr, such as docs, java and one
or two more (enough to ensure that a full root file system
won't cripple the machine).
The Sun Cobalt reply also appeared very "lame" to me, similar to
the one ISP that told me not to dare use the Postgres database
for client sites. Heck, what is the use if one is restricted
to mySQL (weak in comparison to Postgres) or Interbase (not as
widely used).
Something I still can't get used to, is the fact that newbies
to a particular list or community are treated as if they are
total idiots. Changes are slim that I'll "hose" a Unix
file system - not because of a lack of knowledge, anyway...
No hand holding required here, gsh, my fiend, just plain
simple unbiased, technical advice.
*sigh*
Rgrds,
Johan Pretorius
ps - this list is *so slow*, some of my posts appear 2-3 days
after I've sent them. No good if one wants to sort out a
problem in a hurry (hence the copies to gsh and the dear
Revd) ... What is Dan's viewpoint on this? He (who dislikes
top posts with a passion) might have other pet hates I don't
know about yet ;-)
