Oh no. Another Carrie "B". Just when you thought it was safe... ;)
Carrie, first of all - turn off telnet!
Second, do you have all of the latest updates and patches installed?
If you do, most likely you've installed the Pop-before-smtp relay
package. This will allow you to send mail through the server after
you've checked your mail. Default time limit is 15 minutes. For 15
minutes after you check your mail, you can send out mail through the
server. Anything longer than that, and you have to check your mail
again first before it will let you send.
If that's not what it is, go into your Email Parameters and do some
thorough checking, others can advise you on exactly what files 'under
the hood' you can check to make sure nothing's been tampered with.
But first and foremost - disable that telnet immediately. Use SSH2
instead.
