I have a site user on a RAQ3i which I have set up a vacation message for.
Occasionally a strange problem occurs when someone sends to that user and
the vacation perlscript kicks in. The script seemed to cause 3 replies to be
generated e.g.
suppose I sent to it via my e-mail client with a Display Name of 'Gordon
Fong' and e-mail address of gordon@xxxxxxxxxx, then a message was created
with a "To:" header of "Gordon@xxxxxxxxxxxx, Fong@xxxxxxxxxxxx,
gordon@xxxxxxxxxx]"
where raq.fqdn.com is the FQDN of the RAQ3 server.
It seems that the extra square bracket on the end causes the host not found
error because the smtp server tries to resolve the domain name "fong.co.uk]"
without the brackets.
I have a feeling that it could even be the way that Microsoft Outlook forms
the header as these problems have only ever occured (so far) from these mail
clients.
Anyone had similar problems?
After searching the archives I made sure there were no apostrophes in the
vacation message as someone pointed out. I do see that Outlook usually
displays names with 'single apostrophes' around them. Could it be that the
script gets confused when it tries to extract the names and so on?
Gordon.
