Not quite the same situation as this list....But, considering that at the
beginning of the learning curve it's sometimes so hard to grasp something
that you need ask after it's just been answered....yes, I would answer it,
and very specifically NOT get on my high horse and insult the student.
I would also answer the question in such a way that the questioner instead
of feeling "dumb" might actually gain a tool for further understanding of
issues. Having the choice of either answering or assuming they weren't
paying attention, simply indicates to me a very narrow, parocial and
negative outlook.
It's hard for me NOT to answer the questions, since I remember all the
times in life I knew nothing, asked stupid questions, couldn't figure out
how to use the "resources", and found enough folks who took the time to
help me, no matter how thick-of-head I may have been.
And I have vivid memories of the folks who wouldn't answer questions, or
were snotty, or impatient...
Thank goodness there is no metafaq or RFC that dictates in a very narrow
way how I can teach.
