[cobalt-users] 12 character username limit

Hi,

Running Raq4i. I am transferring a number of email accounts from another
provider and want to preserve current POP account user names rather than
have to challenge the technical abilities of the client and their users.

It seems that if I want usernames over 12 characters (which some of them
unfortunately have) I can edit /etc/password and /etc/shadow to modify the
usernames. However this will presumably cause conflicts with directory
structure (as username will no longer correspond with
/home/sites/sitename/users/username) and also will mess up the Cobalt
database which could subsequently mess up my password and shadow files.

Has anyone found a comprehensive fix or patch for this problem? There
doesn't seem to be a "total" solution anywhere I've looked.
