[cobalt-users] Removing self-signed cert?

I had a self-signed cert on my server, valid for * and issued to *. Quite
convenient. Now I'm actually putting names to things, even though they're
still self-signed. However, of course the new certificate won't show to
browsers even after reloading and restarting httpd.
Every thread in the archives ends up with the person rebooting the entire
server so the new cert will show; however, I *really* don't want to do
that. One, just for the stubborn reason that it should be something I can
do in-line without rebooting, and two, because I've got 35 certs to replace
and I can't be rebooting the damn thing all the time.
Has anyone found a better solution?
