I think i got carried away here, this is from my notes, i was pondering
something like this, so you get my notes, i guess this means i'm
volunteering to help if you like also -/
some of these overlap yours a bit but...they are from last several months
of archives, commonly seen, or likely to be seen again..

Interpreting basic things in log files, (Active monitor gibberish
confuses 3 people a week ) named stats dump, harmless errors (eg popper
stray unknown command errors) important errors (eg tried to log in as
root, memory exausted type messages, the imfamous sendmail can't fork
error ;0)

the 'should i install/do everything as root one')
How Cobalt package versioning works (heck, i'm still confused)
And for that matter, *where* the download page is ;0
CGI's/chmod/ftp and permissions/cgiwrap requirements, frontpage
requirements (?)
How to report security issues with out telling the planet you have a
machine with free root shells ;0
(Assuming 'comamnd line basics' includes how to restart things)
What files to *never* touch if you want to GUI to work ever again
undelete/how do i get passwords back/etc, eg things you can't do cause
it's not windows ;0
SSL certs, 2nd level CA issues, (there's a nice post somewhere in the
archives if you can seperate the correct one from all the garbage ones
about equifax) (SSL sites per IP)
Raq4 .htaccess patch (seems to still confound people)
line at the beginning in all caps 'identify type of machine before posting
question so we know what the heck you are asking about' -/
timeserver
*apache*
how to redirect/park a domain name properly, custom 404 pages etc
(guess a basic apache section, seems silly given apache has 200 pages of
online docs tho) , cname to url silliness
link to cgi faq, aka 'my mail script spewed into the server logs'
directory listing on/off
htpasswd config/pam/nopam ,when ,why
extra mime types, (older machines are missing some of these) php, WAP,
shockwave....where to put them
ftp login path for siteadm...
ftp showing dot files
procmail/forwarding mail to 2 people...
pine internal folder don't delete this folder silliness
how to recover/reset sql password (user & postmaster)
hardware overview (what's a raqX cubeX / what cpu seems to come up
occasionally, and cobalt has all this is pdf)
uncommon errors, pop.lock, password lock. alias lock, vsite busy
(somewhere(?) why pop fails at disk quota limit)
disk full can't log in issue...
Site32 limit for admin
-
virii
mini glossery (eg MTA MUA TTL ...)
link(s) basic unix books...
There's a few posts with really nice writeups on installing things that
really should get some space somewhere, too big for faq, but they are hard
to find in archive, ssh,sql,php4...
misc
nameserver name is hostname...(older machines)
resource list/links, eg sendmail.org, proftp, apache/docs majordomo...
free cgi's ...php resource site (??lost the url/exact name)
stats, bandwith packages...
seem to be stray appletalk questions lately, but i don't know if i'd call
them common, doesn't seem to be all that many people with answers
either...
ok, i better stop now ;)
ok, one more, quotable quotes
" Other major linux vendors . release bugs way before cobalt does"
hmm, i think this is enough for a three volume set -/
