I'm pretty sure that the websites live on the /home partition, so
deleting a web site isn't going to get you any more space back on
the /var partition.
It's too late now, but as a backup measure for telnet crashing
out and leaving you stranded, I swear by webmin (webmin.com).
It's an excellent program - as long as you're careful with it,
and don't use any of the functions that clash with what the GUI
looks after. ie never touch the bind settings, or the user
quotas. It also has a full file manager - you can view the whole
directory tree, edit, create, move and delete files, all quite
easy point-and-click stuff. It was a very long time ago, but I
recall simply using this to delete a few large logs from a UNIX
server with a full var partition, and fixing the problem quite
painlessly. I've put this on a 3, a 3i and a 4 without any
problem. You can use the RPM to install it on a 3, but you'll
need to install from source for a 4. There's quite good security
measures you can configure once it's installed.
Sadly, installing something this helpful no doubt wipes out your
warranty.
