Check your ptr records in your DNS.
sendmail attempts to do a reverse lookup, and more than once,
the timeouts are quite long.
Can you do an nslookup on the IP address or the domain name?
Some curse nslookup for doing a reverse on each lookup
but it tells you if your reverse is working, fails if not.
Try also from outside, I use http://www.his.com/cgi-bin/nslookup
enter your IP and hit "return"
