that is indeed my original post. however, a subsequent post detailing
my successful implementation of the port forwarding utility never made
it to the list archives under the original thread. i later posted it
again under a different thread, which you can find here:
http://list.cobalt.com/pipermail/cobalt-users/2000-September/020854.html
the utility i used, portfwd, has been running great on our qube2 for
quite some time now, and other people have also installed it
successfully (though not without jumping through a few hurdles). in
some cases though, others trying to follow my instructions have had
difficulty compiling the utility. part of these troubles were due to
cobalt's "All-Kernel_mips_tools-1.0.pkg" which is necessary to compile
portfwd. unfortunately, the tools pkg doesn't seem to install correctly
(and incidentally also has a bad uninstal script). however, each of the
component rpm's included in the tools pkg can be installed manually
using "rpm -U rpm_filename --force --nodeps" (the component rpm's
themselves can be obtained by decompressing the tools pkg file using
"tar xvfz pkg_name").
by the way, the current stable version of portfwd is 0.15 and can be
downloaded from sourceforge at:
"http://download.sourceforge.net/portfwd/portfwd-0.15.tar.gz". the
portfwd homepage is: "http://freshmeat.net/projects/portfwd/".
good luck,
mikey.
