Re: [cobalt-users] RaQ4 - CPU overload

/usr/sbin/ipop3d - It's a POP3 server v7.64 ???

Some info about this little command is located at:
http://www.cert.org/advisories/CA-1997-09.html
http://www.tux.org/hypermail/linux-net/1999-Apr/0363.html
http://www.mail-archive.com/redhat-list@xxxxxxxxxx/msg10702.html
http://www.acm.org/crossroads/xrds6-1/linuxsec.html

My httpd.conf contains the following line:
pop-3 stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.qpopper -R

I think it's indeed something to look closer at but it shouldn't be nescesarry
to change this if it indeed does what I suspect. Cobalt is the only one who
can actually tell what it is and what it will do I'm affraid.

The problem is that the possible cause of this CPU overload lies within the
qpopper so I'm back to another problem I'm having, the mailinglists. They are
waiting in the queues until it's about 18:00 hours, then they are transmitted
(in the meantime the command sendmail -q will force some retries and send a
few but this takes CPU time again).
The mailserver takes a lot of CPU to process for the qpoppers also. Sometimes
56% for only 1 qpopper. You can guess what I will find in my mailbox after
that...
