I think you should check out the Cisco Systems Local Director product. We
use them in a very large WAN network to load balance to many geographically
dispersed servers and they work very well and very efficiently.

Having worked for Cisco and using their gear daily I would have to recommend
the Cisco routers and switches. Not sure what your final topology is or what
your expected traffic load will be but the Catalyst 5500 and 6500 line can
provide both switching and routing capabilities. SBC or PCConnection are
resellers and you can negotiate with them on discounts. I can give you 2
