RE: [cobalt-users] Re: looking at a site before domain is transferred

Jeff,
If you've been following my questions on the shared SSL here on the list,
we've shown that you don't need a dedicated IP to use SSL, you can share the
server's SSL certificate. *That* is what I meant - that it's not truly
necessary to have a dedicated IP because you can still share.
With the Anonymous FTP, that *is* my mistake. I had read that only one site
can have AnonFTP. I figured sites sharing an IP could also share an AnonFTP
space. No one has requested that of me though, and I haven't tested it out
myself. Based on what you're saying I take it that's not so... I'd probably
have to do a lot of configuring to allow the other sites to access the
AnonFTP directory and it would be better just to give them their own IP and
be done with it. Correct?

Things work a lot better if you know where I'm coming from, the flaming tone
isn't necessary. I'll readily admit where I've made a mistake and tell you
what I was thinking.

As for my comments on CobaltRacks, Sam Moats has put out an open offer to
set up a server and let you test CR's services. If I have a question he's
got an answer to me in 5 minutes - any time of the day. I'm starting to be
convinced that he doesn't sleep. If you don't trust me or my inexperience,
try it for yourself.

To which I respond:

Will you please teach us? And the rest of the Internet community as
well?

Perhaps write a few RFCs on how to do it?

Since the former is impossible, given the way SSL works (you don't know
to which site the request goes until after you've decrypted it, and you
can't decrypt it until after you know which cert to use), and the latter
won't be possible until the ftp protocol is expanded and both your ftp
daemon and all ftp clients are updated to use the new protocol.

Thanks.

(I must admit it's statements such as this that make me wonder if I can
trust some of your other statements, as, for example, those extolling
"Cobaltracks.com".)
