I also have a Cobaltracks server and I must say the support I have
received has been excellent. I had a problem a while back after I got
the server that meant all connections to the box were timing out and
basically cutting off the server to the UK and Europe. Cobaltracks
checked everything out and found a router had gone beserk on the
VisualLink network and also a bad router at the site in NY that deals
with the UK link.
Since then Cobaltracks have got a new link to the UK from Pipex and all
has been fine.
All communications with Cobaltracks have been prompt to reply (ok given
the time difference between UK and US).

Subject: [cobalt-users] cobaltracks - feedback
this is in reference to informaton request for cobaltracks.
we have a raq 3 from cobalt racks.
right of the bat, the server ran pittifully slow, it turned out the
server
had a defective bios chip which cobaltracks was quick to repair.
any support issues have always been handeled quickly and promptly, some
going beyond cobaltracks ability to address
some of my support issues had to go direct to cobalt networks.
as it turned out, i was issued my server without any updates having been
installed.
this caused alot of problems for me, especially when trying to use fp
form
handler on ssl
being new to this dedicated server thing... i had no idea that updates
might
need to be installed.
after many attempts to correct this problem at cobaltrack support, i
went
directly to the source, cobalt networks spent over 3 hours on the phone
with
me to fix all of my raq problems...
missing icons, fp form handler not working clock not keeping time ....
finally they decided it needed updates.
we had hopeless cgi wrapper not found problems on most of our scripts -
which ran fine on a homemade linux / apache box
we have disabled cgi on all webs and control cgi with htaccess.
many of our customers have complained about long page load times.
cobaltracks has not been able to identify any bottlenecks in their
system
we have set up the same set of pages, one at cobaltracks.com ' s web
server
at http://www.netblooms.net/browserAuto.htm
the other at our leased virtual web space in minneapolis at
http://www.netblooms.com/browserAuto.htm
the latter typically loads in under 6 seconds for me in minneapolis with
a
258 dsl line
the cobalt rack page typically takes as long as 45 seconds.
i know part of my problem might indeed be my local machine.
please test loading times on both and let me know what you find.
all in all i am satisfied with cobaltracks.com
i would be absolutly thrilled if they had issued an up to date machine
as this alone would have saved many hours of grief.
this is the perfect company for somebody to go to that has experience
with
the cobalt web server.
if you are new to the dedicated server idea, do not put all of your eggs
in
one basket- keep all of your webs where they are until you are absolutly
comfortable with the cobalts funy quirks...
ht password / access need to be set up different.
cgi script wrapper problems - a biggie for me with no understanding at
all
of what a cgi wrapper is.
3rd level domain set ups and dns in general has really been a challenge
for
me.
the one thing i could have used was an initial set up page as the server
was
issued with 4 ip's no webs and no instructions on how to get that server
up
and running.
some of my dns problems have been the result of the servers initial home
web
and ip assignment at setup
many thanks
