Your DNS setup seems ok to me.
If it works ok most of the time it is unlikely to be a DNS prob.
If there is no response when you ping by IP then it is NOT a dns problem as
dns is not being used in this instance.
You say you can access web pages on the servers but cannot telnet or ftp,
are you sure the webpages you are viewing are not cached?
Refresh the pages when the raqs are down next, if the server "was not found"
then it would seem that your problem could be hardware based with the router
being the prime suspect.
