Having gone through the cable modem thing, I much prefer the
previous recommendation to buy the Linksys Cable/DSL router
thing for about $150. Then it will get the DHCP address
dynamically, you can configure the secondary interface with
a static address headed to the little router, and all your
problems are over.

Switching the interfaces won't do you much good. There is a
difference between using the Qube as a DHCP *client* for your
cable modem and using it as a DHCP *server* for your network.
And the DHCP *server* will only assign addresses through the
primary interface according to the docs.
