Since someone posted the URL of the Great Bridge benchmark test of PostgreSQL
vs. MySQL I thought I'd post the update on the story. For those that don't
recall or didn't read it, Great Bridge is a PostgreSQL support company. Their
test showed that PostgreSQL is much faster than MySQL, especially under a heavy
load. At MySQL's urging they re-ran their tests with a different MySQL driver
and configuration changes to MySQL and MySQL was indeed faster under some
circumstances. There were a couple of messages posted in the last 7 hours on
the MySQL list that have more details. Apparently there are a few more things
that acn be done to speed up MySQL that Great Bridge isn't doing and the MySQL
team is suspicious that PostgreSQL is being optimized in ways that aren't being
publicized. I thought some of you would find this info. of value since you have
the wonderful luxury of being abled to choose between these two very nice
database products (among others) and you should pick the one that makes sense
for your needs.
