I partially agree with this. An interesting note about this: spelling, etc.
changed a lot back in the olden days. With the advent of the printing press
it pretty much killed 'evolution' of spellings, language structure, etc.
Likewise with pronunciation, dialog, etc., used to change quite a bit, yet
at least with English, since the advent of recording technologies speech
hasn't changed much.
But, with un-proofed communication suddenly flourishing, the English
language may begin to grow again--in fact has. We've had to add new words
(buzzwords mostly) to fill a gap in the language.
One thing that most people don't know or realize is that 'spelling' is
nothing more then a convention. The most popular spelling of a word is the
'correct' version. I did some searches on google, etc., a while back to see
how 'popular' some of my least favorite spellings of words (read: words I
can't spell) were doing. I was happy to see that about 10-15% of people
agree with my method. Eventually we could sway the vote enough to change
the 'proper' spelling.
Anyway.
Food for thought.
