[cobalt-users] More Ram Needed? - RAQ3i

RaQ3i - 128mb Ram

Recently i've been getting a lot of hits on my server (hosting 240) domains
on one and a close to 200 on another...

The one with 240 domains is getting cpu overload problems -- It has 128mb
ram, however I have a few questions before installing more Ram...

Does anyone know if perl scripts and cgi's try dipping into RAM before CPU?
How about when somone checks their POP mail, does it first look for available
RAM, if thats not available does it dip into CPU? Because during overloads I
look through "top" and I see people checking their mail with a 21.6 for cpu,
now thats pretty hefty for just checking mail, right?

Not to mention the SMTP server shuts down when these overloads occur.

So will adding more RAM fix the problem? Its generally from Hits (httpd in
top)... I was having this same problem with 64mb of ram and it fixed it for a
while until I added more sites and some sites got more popular. So what if I
maxed the server out with 512mb ram? Will that kiss all problems goodbye?
If so, how many sites do you think are hostable?
