My Concerns.
ok so we start a site for the cobalt products but cobalt makes several
products.
Most likely we won't hit them all so I will start this example with the
raq2.
The site would need to inform the user how to install programs. I'll use
the webalizer how to I entered into the archives a while back. It requires
the installation of 4 additional 'things' before webalizer will compile.
Now the next time I compile some other program that needed one of those
'things' unless I check real hard I won't know that I'm using something that
is not standard on the raq2 and the faq for this program is now bad.
Now I know what your saying "everybody should have 'yourthing'" as a base.
but the base is or should be imho the raq2 with all the updates installed.
so how do we make sure these faqs are correct for the base model? to me the
answer is
common sense logging/rebuilding/removal/backup/more/work. this would leave
an raq2 that most of us don't want or need.? Not to mention it would have
to be non-production and crashable. for that matter it would have to be
physically close to the person testing and rebuilding it occasionally.
Now how many products are there? Without the support of cobalt I'm not sure
the accuracy we all want would be there. I'd mention that I suggested it to
them and even offered to work specifically on it but you know what happens
when you send mail to cobalt..... NOTHING!
