The release is official.

Several users have reported problems with it.

(Many) Other users have reported no problems at all.

I can certainly understand that Cobalt wouldn't want to support a system
without it, though it seems a bit shortsighted, most manufacturers are
willing to support one rev behind...

We support Cobalt RaQ3 without the update.  We charge, of course.
