I know it would require Apache to use an extra file handle
for each log. However, that doesn't really become a
practical when you are under 100 sites in my experience.
The performance hit for keeping that many file handles
appears neglible to me in the day to day operation.
With some older kernels on x86 platforms, you could run
into problems with running out of file handles, but again
I've never ran into this as I've kept the number of webs
under 100 per server.
Curious, what exactly about this approach is it that you like?
I'm not meaning to flame or slam, I'm just looking for a reason
why.
Thanks,
Robert
