Couple of thoughts on the subject... hope this helps.
If your domain name is waterpump.com, set up the central office server to
accept mail for both waterpump.com and central.waterpump.com or some other
name. Then, configure the Qube to be branch.waterpump.com. Finally, tell
your branch users to begin using user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and your
central-office users to begin using user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Does your ISP hold all mail for your domain in a single mailbox, or does it
have individual boxes for each person? If it has individual mailboxes for
each user, then no problem: just tell the Qube who its five authorized users
are, then it will dial up and check just those five accounts. You shouldn't
(I think) tell it to "accept mail for the waterpump.com domain" since then
it will believe it is the primary mail server.
One should be able to write to all users @waterpump.com and
@branch.waterpump.com for safety's sake. Therefore, the NT server should
also have those five accounts setup, so that if any mail comes through for
user@xxxxxxxxxxxxx who is located at the branch office, Exchange will
forward automatically to user@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and then the Qube will get it.
Note: the Qube should only accept mail for @branch.waterpump.com. The NT
should accept mail for @central.waterpump.com and @waterpump.com.
If it turns out that your ISP holds all your domain's mail in one mailbox,
then you're going to simply have to let the NT server download it all and
give the five users accounts on that box. Then the Qube should dial into the
NT server and check the mail there.
