Ok this one has been bugging me. My first linux system had zip on it so I
built a computer so I could run it again. Zip is there and I don't mean
gzip. I'm not sure but I think it's a gone from the face of the earth now
but I could be wrong. there are several problems related to compress and I
don't know if this is in there or not. Bottom line is that you don't care!
Huh... That's right you don't. the why can be a long answer but seems to be
based on the way the dos version and the Unix version work when producing a
file. You need to use the Unix stuff on a Unix/linux system and zip that we
use in the dos world (I do consider win9x a dos based app.) doesn't work
right in Unix. Unix people have been right for some time about what should
be happening to their files and zip as we know it in the dos world (Fill in
something like sucks) is a bad thing. you need to learn how to work with
the good stuff. I had to and life is better. I now prefer blabla.tar.gz
files. But if you need to zip something up and send it up to your server.
I believe the Unix stuff will work fine. I've never done it because I have
a fast connection to my server.
