It shouldn't.  Not if you're talking about a true linux "patch".  It
should just tell you it won't work and exit.  But I wouldn't try on a
production system.

Some people do.  This question really belongs on cobalt-developers.  In
fact it's exactly the kind of question that does belong on
cobalt-developers, and my bet is you'll get a good answer there.

Wrong way to go about this.

Making a new kernel isn't hard.  But there are some places to go
seriously wrong.  So I would NOT do it on a production server.

Don't forget this is a RaQ; you don't have lilo.  You don't have a
floppy.
